SCRGP received the following information from Xcel Energy on January 11, 2017:
The Xcel Energy Stapleton Natural Gas Pipeline Project is a project to install a new 2-mile-long, 16-inch-diameter natural gas pipeline within the Stapleton neighborhood in order to continue to provide, safe reliable natural gas service to the Stapleton area and to meet the increased demand for natural gas service as a result of the area’s growth. The project map is here.
As part of the construction of this project, as early as this coming Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, there will be construction activities taking place along Smith Road – this will occur along the location for the trailhead parking lot, just east of Sand Creek along Smith Road. During the construction activities, the trailhead parking lot will remain accessible. At times, there may be a portion of the driveway blocked off as trenching activities occur, but the trailhead parking lot will remain accessible. The work in the Smith Road portion of the project is expected to last up to four weeks.
Additionally, as early as this coming March, we will begin working on the valve set, or above ground piping, near the trail at Havana Street and Florence Way. The valve set siting area is shown within the attached map as well. The valve set construction activities may have some trail impacts, but we are still evaluating the construction processes and how the installation will occur. We will keep you posted as additional details become available.
Please note that construction schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors.
