Note: We had to cancel this volunteer workday because of a soaking rain on Saturday morning. Because we’d planned to work in an area of the Greenway that was recently planted and seeded, our city partners with Commerce City wanted to prevent inadvertent damage to the newly reestablished areas. Plus, it was pretty chilly! We’ll get out to that part of the Greenway in future workdays, and we’ll ask Carl to join us!
We’re adding a special feature to our Volunteer Work Day this Saturday, November 3! At the start of our session at 10, American Birding Association board member, Carl Bendorf will introduce tips for urban birding to our volunteers. Carl will bring his spotting scope, too, to allow a closer view of the birds we’ll see on our Greenway.
We’ll meet at a western section of the trail in Commerce City near the confluence of the South Platte and our Sand Creek, and our volunteer focus will be mulching the new trees and vegetation that Commerce City planted after an extensive ecological restoration project. We’ll also work to spruce up the entire area, and pick up trash.

Meet us at 10 am, we’ll talk birds and then we’ll work until noon. We’ll have water, snacks and bagels, for your enjoyment, and Carl will provide information about the birds we might see in our urban environment. Details about the day, what to expect, how to sign up—are here!
