Volunteer Work Day on November 23 – Putting in a Bee Hotel Trail on the Greenway!

With leadership from Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space staff, we’re putting in a “Bee Hotel Trail” at Sand Creek Park on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We’ll be putting in a crusher fine trail, bee hotels, and other nature discovery features to create an interactive educational experience for visitors to explore on their own. There is a parking lot at Sand Creek Park located at 2700 N Peoria St, Aurora, CO 80011 where volunteers should meet. If volunteers can stay the whole day, that would be preferred however, two shifts are offered: 9am-12pm and 12pm-3pm. We have basic gardening gloves for volunteers to use but suggest volunteers bring their own gloves if they have them. We just ask that everyone wear closed toed shoes and long pants and dress for the weather (and to get dirty!). We do ask for everyone to bring water bottles and a lunch or snack as well (although we will try and have some water and snacks there for those who do not). Youth ages 10-17 can join us if accompanied by an adult who can oversee them, and anyone over 18 that is capable of the labor required is welcome!

Winter Bird Count on December 15 – Beginning to Advanced Birders Welcome!
With Denver Parks and Recreation staff, we’ll explore the Westerly Creek/Smith Road trailhead area of the Greenway from 9 am to 11 am to observe birds and add our counts to online databases. Basic birding instruction is available for newbies, and we welcome birders of all levels to join us!

Email Mo for more information and let us know you are coming to each event! mfair@sandcreekgreenway.org

Many thanks to all our volunteers who care for the Greenway and have fun in the process!
