Forty-five volunteers and five all-star team leaders planted 225 native plants, protected 45 cottonwood trees from beavers, and picked up 25 bags of trash along the Sand Creek Regional Greenway during the 6th Annual Xcel Energy Day of Service on Saturday, September 10th, 2016.
The Xcel Energy Day of Service began 6 years ago to honor the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Over the last 6 years, the event has grown to involve thousands of Xcel Energy employees and customers as well as their families and friends in service projects across the state.
The Greenway’s 45 volunteers worked long and hard planting, caging cottonwoods, and picking up trash. Their hard work totaled to 135 volunteer hours, or more than three hours of work that otherwise would not have been possible.
Many thanks to Commerce City Parks and Recreation for generously supplying tools and materials and to all of the volunteers for their hard work, energy, and enthusiasm. And of course, a special thank you to Xcel Energy their ongoing support of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway and the opportunity to participate such an amazing event year after year.
