Suncor Refinery Resumes Operations
Refinery Resumes Operations (8:30 a.m. Oct. 15 update):
Following yesterday’s power outage, the refinery continues to progress with a safe and planful start-up. Through the course of today and tomorrow there may be a visible emission of white fine clay-like dust. This material is not hazardous, and is a part of regular start-up activities. The company’s main focus through this start-up continues to be the safety of plant personnel and the community.
Power Failure occurs at Suncor Refinery (noon, Oct. 14 update):
At approximately noon Friday, the Commerce City refinery experienced a power failure which resulted in an operational upset. As a result of this upset a visible emission was seen coming from the refinery. Suncor is working to safely stabilize the plant following the power failure. As a precaution Brighton Boulevard has been closed temporarily. Regulators have been notified and have initiated air monitoring in and around the refinery and neighboring community.
