Join us this Saturday as our volunteers will meet at Star K Ranch / Morrison Nature Center in Aurora (April 6) at 10 am for a special prairie seeding work project. To take part, please email Beth at bnobles@sandcreekgreenway.org
We’ll start the day with coffee and bagels, and a brief talk about native prairie by Melissa Islam, the Denver Botanic Gardens’ Associate Director of Biodiversity Research.
Then, under the direction of Aurora’s Parks Recreation and Open Space Department, we’ll head to the assigned work area with the rakes and seeds they’ll provide. (Some of us might take to the trail with trash pickers and trash bags!)
We’ll work until noon, and then the group is invited to visit the Morrison Nature Center, which is one of our “gems” of the Sand Creek Greenway. There’s lots to explore!
A couple of special notes:
Though we are awaiting word on confirmed dates, our Sand Creek Greenway will be closed for sanitary water line work by Aurora Water from Chambers to Airport Road for several weeks, and there won’t be a trail detour for the Greenway during this time. (We’ll post more details when we have them.) During this closure, the Morrison Nature Center and their Wetland Loop trail will remain open.
And we thank Suncor and Xcel Energy and our individual donors for support of our volunteer programs!

Morrison Nature Center (Map)
How to get there: At the intersection of Chambers and Smith Road, turn east on Smith Road. Drive for 1/2 mile and turn right on Laredo Street. Follow the road around to the right, and park in the Morrison Nature Center parking lot. Make sure to pop into the nature center, which is filled with maps, educational displays, and is run by very knowledgeable Aurora naturalists. To connect to the Sand Creek Regional Greenway, follow the path that leads from the parking area about 1/2 mile to the Greenway trail. There are bathrooms and water at the nature center, which is open Wednesday-Sunday.
